Happy Monday, all!
How was everyone’s weekend? For us, it was a weekend packed with family time. David was able to stay home with us all day on Saturday. For those of you who don’t know, David owns a couple of Rise Biscuits Donuts shops. One is located here in Raleigh and the other in Richmond, Virginia. Because of the early hours and the fact that the weekends are extremely busy for the businesses, it typically requires David to work on Saturdays and Sundays…at least for a couple of hours. Well, not this past Saturday. We had him all day long. The four of us headed to our oldest niece’s 10th birthday party on Saturday and then Sunday consisted of brunch with family and friends and an afternoon of swimming. (Truth be told, Ryan skipped his nap on Saturday so Sunday was a much more fun day overall. Pressed all of our buttons Saturday afternoon and evening. Man, that kid needs his nap. We need him to need his nap.)
As for this coming weekend, we are hoping to make it to the beach. We have packing down to a science at this point. We all have the basics already down there so it’s just matter of packing some clothes and grabbing toys for the kids. I have learned to take a few t-shirts and comfy pants because we spend most of our time taking it easy. Two nicer tops are sufficient, especially for a two to tree day stay.
One top that I have brought the past few times is this off the shoulder “dress”. Yep, it’s a dress. Let’s talk for a minute about this…keep in mind when you are out shopping or scrolling through Instagram to see what your favorite bloggers are wearing. Just because a piece is labelled one way doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be worn or that exact way. For example, this dress would be insanely short on my 5’10 frame but I loved the embroidery so I kept my fingers crossed that it could be styled as a top…and it worked! Another example? Several of the head scarves that I have been wearing lately are meant to be worn as turbans. The patterns and silk are so beautiful and I figured that it was worth giving it whirl and attempting to style them as more of a headband look. Again, it worked. Keep an open mind, be creative.
