It has become clear to me that I officially have a “mom uniform”. I feel like there is a bit of a negative connotation attached to that term but I don’t view it that way. Here’s the reality of the situation…when you become a mom, two big things happen…1. Your world no longer revolves around you. 2. Your time is constantly limited.
After Ryan was born, while I was still able to put some thought into my daily outfits but that wasn’t able to happen until he went down for his first nap. It was nearly impossible for me to get dressed with any creativity before 9am. At that point, I could spend some time in my closet putting together pieces and layering with accessories.
Cut to Emerson arriving and standing in my closet for fifteen minutes brainstorming outfit ideas on a daily basis just wasn’t an option anymore. I always vowed that I would never give up my love of clothes once I became a mom. Even though I always talk about comfort, that doesn’t mean giving up any personal style or throwing on workout wear every day. Let me be clear, there is 100% nothing wrong with sporting athletic/athleisure wear. That is exactly what works for many and understandably so. It’s just that for me personally, I feel so much more motivated when I am in an outfit that I love and with my hair and makeup done. Otherwise, I just want to lounge around all day…which is obviously not an option.
It took awhile to finally figure out a quick system for getting dressed in the morning. This involved creating a few go-to simple looks in my head. My favorite one being an outfit that consists of a band or concert tee, jeans, boots or sneaks and a cool jean jacket. I can put this on any day of the week and it doesn’t require much thought or time and I know that I will feel comfortable about how I look. No more agonizing over how to put together a look or just throwing on random comfy clothes.
Do YOU have a go-to look that you throw on when you are in a hurry but want to appear like you made much more of an effort than you actually did? if so, I would love for you to share what that looks like for you!
