Happy June!!!
There is something about having a nice tan that makes us feel better about ourselves. Personally, a tan makes me feel skinnier and who doesn’t want to feel skinnier?!
Recently, Amanda Romano reached out and introduced us to her mobile, organic, sunless tanning service, On the Glo. We were beyond stoked and could not wait to schedule a time for Amanda to come give us our first ‘glo’ of the season.
After comparing schedules, we decided that we would meet up during lunch one day through the week. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we were pleased when we opened the door to greet Amanda. She was hauling all of her mobile accessories while managing to look adorable. We chatted for a few minutes and decided to head outside to start the process.
Amanda popped up a tent, plugged in her machine and was ready to go. The first step was to apply barrier cream to elbow and ankles. Then, she began to spray. Here are a few “action” pics.
After 2 passes of the spray, we were all done. It took 10 mins tops. So easy and quick.
Here is a before and after pic of the sunless tan. The after pic was taken 20 mins after she sprayed and it continued to get darker as the day passed. The results were AMAZING!
Ladies, read below on how to host your very own ‘Glo Bash’ and to learn more about On the Glo.
How long you have been in business?
“I started On The Glo a year ago after doing airbrushing for a small, family-owned salon for 10-years. I saw a huge opportunity to take a service like sunless tanning mobile. I knew how much people loved the golden glow but wanted to let people experience that in the comfort and convenience of their own homes, etc.”
What is airbrushing?
“Sunless airbrushing is different from the sunless booths you often see at chain tanning salons like Mystic Tan, etc. Airbrushing is a fine mist sprayed onto your body by a technician rather than stepping into a computerized booth. Airbrushing is much more precise and personable.”
What is in the solution?
“All solutions can be different but all contain the active ingredient DHA (dihydrozyacetone) derived by sugar cane and approved by the FDA in 1973. DHA combines with amino acids to form brown-colored melaninoids aka the bronze color that goes onto your skin. Solutions have different percentages of DHA the lower the percentage the lighter the solution or tan you’ll receive.
The solution On The Glo uses is organic, meaning it’s safe for your skin and the environment too! Organic products have calming natural ingredients so our solution is safe for people with sensitive skin types and allergies. The advanced formula we use from Norvell guarantees fast drying, non-sticky, streak-free, no orange color and odor-free results.”
How long does a spray tan last?
“Clients can typically expect 5-7 days of color with the proper maintenance.”
Can I choose how tan I want to be?
“Yes! We offer different levels of darkness – regular, dark, double dark and a competition grade. Results will always vary depending on the person’s skin type but by having a variety of shades our technicians can pick the perfect solution for your individual skin type and needs.”
How long does an appointment take?
“The whole process typically takes 10-15 minutes with drying and all.”
Will my spray tan stain my pajamas, sheets or clothes?
“Anything with DHA has the potential for the bronze color to rub off on clothing and bed sheets. However, all cosmetic bronzers are water-soluble meaning in most cases the color will come out in the wash. We recommend wearing dark, loose-fitted clothing to minimize the chance of transferring the bronzers onto your clothes and also avoid exercising or excessive sweating until after you take your first shower.”
What is the average costs of a spray tan?
“Getting sprayed in a booth is always going to be more affordable ($20-30) but you’re going to sacrifice quality. Airbrushing by a technician can run anywhere from ($35-70).”
Do you offer any group discounts?
“Yes – our Glo Bashes are a ton of fun! A group of 4-6 people is $30/each and the host/hostess receives their tan for free! 7-9 people is $25/each and 10+ people is $20/each.”
How do I prolong my spray tan?
“Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! We also recommend using soaps that are low in pH when showering and refrain from using salt/sugar scrubs, defoliators, etc. as these will strip your color. Avoid rubbing your skin dry after showers, just pat and stay away from hot tubs and use a new razor when shaving if possible as old, dull razor blades will exfoliate your skin.”
Feel free to contact us with any questions that you have or if you wish to co-host a Glo Bash!
