The Coziest Oversized Sweater

Happy Monday, friends!

We host both of our families for Thanksgiving every year so today I will be spending much of my time preparing the house for Thursday.  Fingers crossed that little Miss Emerson understands how important it is that things start getting accomplished.  I was able to finish the tablescape yesterday so today needs to consist of straightening up and organizing.  With the birth of Emerson and then having to spend two days last week in the hospital with the little one, let’s just say that our house has seen better days.  I felt behind on everything even  before she was born so now it feels like I am a bit underwater.  Hopefully, the rooms on the first floor can be tidied up today and I can worry about upstairs later.  To clarify, by “upstairs” I mean put away the piles of laundry and tackle the disaster that is my closet.

Have any of you thought about what you would like to wear on Thanksgiving?  Typically, we all dress fairly casually.  Nobody wears sweats or anything but we do value comfort.  This year, I’ll likely wear a sweater or cardigan paired with skinny jeans.  The oversized sweater that I am wearing in this post is a fantastic option.  The color is perfectly festive for Thanksgiving and the fit is perfect for gorging yourself on delicious food.  This particular sweater also comes in black, cream, blue, bright pink and gold.  After realizing how much I found myself wearing the “Tobacco” color, I ordered the black.  It arrived just a little over a week ago and has already been worn three times.  It’s the perfect option for those days when you want to feel comfy but look put together.  It’s quickly becoming my “I can’t figure out what to wear so I’ll put this on again” piece for the fall and winter.  It is supposed to fit oversized but you could definitely size down and not lose that feel.  Also, I think that this color would look AMAZING paired with leopard shoes or booties.   (Side note: It’s rare that I don’t size down in Free People.)

I’d love to know how you typically dress for Thanksgiving!  Do you dress up or dress down?

OTK Boots

It’s no secret that we both love our over-the-knee (OTK) boots and they are by far the chicest shoes this winter.  Designers have done a great job providing endless options from flats, lace ups, stilettos and even wedges…there is a pair for everyone.

Since we live for comfort, it’s no surprise that we both own a pair of flat over-the-knee boots.  Although flats are typically considered more relaxed and casual, we still wear them for a more dressed up look.  That’s the great thing about these boots, you always feel “dressed up”.

If you are on the fence and not sure if you can pull these off, we encourage you to give them a try.  Make sure to find a pair that fits snug against your legs and sits about an inch above the knee for a slimming effect. Maybe go for a pair in black to start since it is flattering for all body types and will match nearly any outfit.

A Bit of Fringe for Winter

Good morning, friends!

Hope that you all are recovering from the fun and madness of the holidays.  We had a really great Christmas Eve and Christmas but it is hard to believe they have come and gone.  So much work goes into preparing for the holiday season and then poof!  It’s all over.  I keep looking around at our Christmas decorations and thinking that I don’t want them to come down…especially our tree.  Coming downstairs in the morning and being met with the warm glow from the tree makes mornings seem a bit magical.  It makes easing into the day so much better when it begins in such a lovely way.

Beyond the fact that I enjoy having our home decorated, I made so many holiday decoration purchases this year that I need more storage containers before I can put everything away.  Does anyone else feel like home decor by Threshold at Target was impossible to resist this season?  The Threshold items beckon me during the rest of the year so I suppose it’s no real surprise that I now own what seems like 148 decorative Christmas trees.  It’s a double whammy because not only did I purchase a bunch of random Christmas stuff from Target but now I need to head back there to purchase additional storage bins.  Go ahead Target, just take it all..take all the money.

Last week, I met up with Tiffany for a fun girls’ day out.  We walked around downtown Raleigh and popped into a couple shops, including the adorable, The Flourish Market.  If you live locally, you should definitely check it out.  After shopping, we met up with our friend and fellow Raleigh blogger, Alex Butler, for some Mexican and margaritas.  Let me rephrase, we met up and housed a vat of queso and some margaritas.

For our fun day out and about, I wore this sweater and paired it with all-black everything else.  I am a total sucker for fringe so when I saw this turtleneck, I knew it was a piece that I would wear often.  I was a bit nervous because it was in the bp. section at Nordstrom and junior pieces typically don’t fit me unless they are available in XL.  Thankfully, this sweater was roomy enough that the Large fit perfectly.  It can be worn as a dress but as a 5’10 girl with a long torso, that wasn’t going to be an option.  It is so comfy and cozy…so perfect for winter!  This sweater recently went on sale for just $35 so the sizes are selling out quickly.  I linked some other fun fringe sweater options in the widget below the post!
