Embroidered Details for the Win

Good morning, friends!

Hope you all are having a fantastic week so far.  This week has been pretty mellow around our household.  Ryan came down with a cold over the weekend so we have been taking it easy.  We have been spending time with family now that he’s on the mend.  Our nieces go back to school in two weeks so we are trying to soak up as much time with them as possible.  We are heading to lunch with them today and then I foresee several pool days in the near future, once Ryan is 100%.

David and I need to figure out a sleepover night for the girls over the next week or two.  When we moved into our house five years ago, we set up one of the guest rooms as a sleepover room for them.  Well, that room will soon be turned into the baby’s nursery so we have to have them sleep in there one last time before we move the twin beds out and move the crib in.  It is definitely bittersweet.  While we are elated for this baby, it seems like the end of a beautiful era with our nieces, who are so important to us.  They are older now and have school, homework, projects, activities, and what seems like 1,284 birthday parties too attend.  Their free time to sleep at our house is more limited these days.  Don’t get me wrong, we see them at least a couple of times a week but overnights have become less consistent.  I’ll have to plan something special for this last night in their room.  We’ll have to figure out where they’ll sleep in the future!  (Cough, cough, I turned our other guest bedroom into a craft room a few years back and I’m not putting them in the one in the basement.)

Tiffany and I met up on Sunday and I wrote this incredibly pretty (and comfortable) embroidered dress.  It is the perfect piece to throw on when you want to feel put together but don’t want to worry about your figure.  No Spanx necessary, no sucking in, no worrying about how much food you consume that night…just pure comfort.  Initially, the gorgeous sleeves drew me in.  I also loved the contrast of the bright colors against the dark black fabric.  It’s a perfect piece to transition into the fall as well as it looks great when paired with booties.  It definitely fits oversized so I HIGHLY recommend ordering down a size…if not two.  (For reference, I am 5’10 and typically wear a Large but always size down in Free People.  I ordered a Medium and even that will have to be taken in after this pregnancy.)

Have a wonderful day!

My Idea of the Perfect Distressed Tee

Good morning and happy halfway-through-the-week!

Not too much going on around here.  Just catching up on household work and also a bit of resting.  We spent the weekend at the beach with both David’s parents as well as my parents.  It was pretty special to see Ryan share that experience with both sets of grandparents and I know that David’s dad and my dad loved spending Father’s Day as one big group.

When we went to the beach a few weeks ago, Ryan loved swimming but he had yet to figure out how to stay buoyant (while wearing his Puddle Jumper).  I had to have a hand on him at all times.  We have gone to the pool here in Raleigh a couple of times since and I could see the learning beginning as his little legs were starting to kick a bit but he still needed assistance.  Over this past weekend, it all just clicked and he was swimming around the pool (with his Jumper) independently.  Definitely one of my most memorable mom moments so far.  Pretty amazing to witness your little one learning such a fun and important skill!

Because we are going to be spending quite a bit of time at the beach over the summer, I have been hunting for tees that I can wear both during and after pregnancy.  (I am trying not to purchase maternity tops, only bottoms out of necessity.)  When we are down there, I don’t tend to get ready like I do at home.  Comfort and ease are at the top of the priority list so when I found this particular distressed tee, it was ordered immediately…in all three color options.  I will live in these babies!  The longer length is perfect for pregnancy but will also be so adorable afterwards when paired with skinny jeans.  The tee isn’t distressed too much, just a few tiny little holes and the shoulder cutout.  To me, it’s pretty close to the perfect tee…especially love the nod to my old home.

Go-To Spring Look

Typically, once spring hits, women grab their cutoff shorts and colorful dresses.  I, on the other hand, reach for my tried-and-true staple outfit…a bohemian style top and jeans.  My mom has always laughed at my wardrobe choice for warmer weather but I just can’t seem to wear anything short until my legs are tan.  Does anyone else feel like their legs are still shockingly white even with self-tanner?  My face, chest and arms tan so easily (thanks to the sun or self-tanner) but my legs remain frighteningly pale.  Because of this, I love pairing a beautiful, loose top with distressed denim.  It feels like the perfect compromise in this spring weather.  My favorite brand for these particular tops?  Free People.  I could happily live in their tops for the rest of my life.  Added bonus besides how gorgeous these tops tend to be?  They work as maternity tops as well.

I love the embroidery on the top of this one that I am featuring today as well as the v-neckline.  During pregnancy, I tend to accentuate my décolletage in hopes that showing some skin will make me feel a bit more feminine once my waistline has vanished.  This top is also a great length.  It hits around tunic length, provides a lot of coverage to the hips and (if you’re not 5’10 like I am) can be worn as a dress.  It also comes in a gorgeous red, a beautiful yellow and a striking teal!  Let’s take a moment and talk about this hat…I have been living in it the past couple of years and it is still available.  I wear it while out and about running errands and also when at the beach.  It fits perfectly and it’s neutral enough that it goes with almost anything!

Happy almost-weekend, friends!
