Chenille Butterscotch Sweater

FALL WEATHER HAS FINALLY ARRIVED IN RALEIGH!  Yes, that sentence certainly deserved all capital letters.  I have been (completely impatiently) waiting for the temperature to drop.  Fall is my favorite time of year so now I just am keeping my fingers crossed that winter remains at a distance for awhile so we can enjoy this amazing weather.

Admittedly, I have not been able to get fully ready every day recently.  Emerson has been experiencing reflux and let’s just say that she has been quite “spirited”.  That’s the adjective that I am using to describe her as opposed to something less positive…(visually insert teeth-gritting emoji here).  She will have a few decent days and then all of a sudden have a day or two when she cries in pain constantly and just wants to be held.  Needless to say, it makes any kind of routine impossible.  The tough part about it isn’t the lack or routine, it’s the feeling of helplessness.  We want so badly to take away her pain.  For now, we will ride it out and just pray that it subsides as she gets older.

Although I wasn’t ready until the early afternoon yesterday, I did manage to get out of the house with my hair and makeup done.  It was a bit of a gloomy day anyway so the need to spend a ton of time on my hair didn’t seem too necessary so I was able to throw some curls in and call it done.  The air was a bit crisp so I was thrilled to wear my new tunic length sweater.  This butterscotch color called out to me in the store as it seemed the perfect color for fall.  It reminds me of the season’s changing leaves.  The chenille material is incredible soft and cozy and I love the rounded hemline detail.  Although this sweater is meant to appear a little oversized, it doesn’t feel bulky at all.  I have larger chest so wearing sweaters can difficult because they just make me look top heavy.  That isn’t the case with this one in the slightest.  It is such a gorgeous piece for fall!

“Grandpa Chic”

Happy Wednesday, all!

How is everyone’s week going?  Things around here continue to be busy…and productive.  I am finally seeing the light at the end of tunnel with regards to getting the house organized before baby girl’s arrival.  My goal is to have purged and organized every room and every closet.  The only thing I will not touch?  The unfinished storage area in our basement.  First of all, it’s completely daunting and unless David is by my side in there, I might have a breakdown.  So. Much. Stuff.  Second of all, our community has a massive garage sale each year so we are waiting until then to begin pulling everything out of storage.

On a positive (and exciting) note, I ordered several pieces for the nursery yesterday.  Her crib, dresser, chair and a mirror should all be coming within the next few weeks.  The plan is to order the two bunny prints that will hang above her crib later today.  Next up?  Find wallpaper for her crib wall.  I am trying to find a wall covering that will match the existing paint color and, so far, it hasn’t proven to be an easy task.  Fingers crossed that one of our local wallpaper shops will have a perfect match.  Maybe I’ll head there tomorrow.  Up until about a week ago, I had been super low-key about her room.  Ryan didn’t start sleeping in his room until he was between 3 and 4 months old so I wasn’t too concerned about having her nursery completed based on that timeline.  However, I don’t know what the heck happened this past week but now I’m like, “It’s game-time, people!”  I want everything DONE.

Part of this entire process involves cleaning out my closet.  I donated several bags of clothes last week and sent a ton of stuff to my favorite local consignment shop, Dress.  The irony?  The very next day, I received  shipment of items that I had ordered from Nordstrom.  My bad.  Inside the box was this amazing cardigan that I am wearing below.  While I have always loved what I fondly refer to as the Grandpa Chic look, I am LOVING these new cardigans that have a more slouchy look.  This particular one offers a less structured vibe and the color is pretty incredible.  I can absolutely understand why someone would shy away from this copper color but I couldn’t resist.  To keep the look fairly streamlined, I decided to pair it with all-black.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Embroidered Details for the Win

Good morning, friends!

Hope you all are having a fantastic week so far.  This week has been pretty mellow around our household.  Ryan came down with a cold over the weekend so we have been taking it easy.  We have been spending time with family now that he’s on the mend.  Our nieces go back to school in two weeks so we are trying to soak up as much time with them as possible.  We are heading to lunch with them today and then I foresee several pool days in the near future, once Ryan is 100%.

David and I need to figure out a sleepover night for the girls over the next week or two.  When we moved into our house five years ago, we set up one of the guest rooms as a sleepover room for them.  Well, that room will soon be turned into the baby’s nursery so we have to have them sleep in there one last time before we move the twin beds out and move the crib in.  It is definitely bittersweet.  While we are elated for this baby, it seems like the end of a beautiful era with our nieces, who are so important to us.  They are older now and have school, homework, projects, activities, and what seems like 1,284 birthday parties too attend.  Their free time to sleep at our house is more limited these days.  Don’t get me wrong, we see them at least a couple of times a week but overnights have become less consistent.  I’ll have to plan something special for this last night in their room.  We’ll have to figure out where they’ll sleep in the future!  (Cough, cough, I turned our other guest bedroom into a craft room a few years back and I’m not putting them in the one in the basement.)

Tiffany and I met up on Sunday and I wrote this incredibly pretty (and comfortable) embroidered dress.  It is the perfect piece to throw on when you want to feel put together but don’t want to worry about your figure.  No Spanx necessary, no sucking in, no worrying about how much food you consume that night…just pure comfort.  Initially, the gorgeous sleeves drew me in.  I also loved the contrast of the bright colors against the dark black fabric.  It’s a perfect piece to transition into the fall as well as it looks great when paired with booties.  It definitely fits oversized so I HIGHLY recommend ordering down a size…if not two.  (For reference, I am 5’10 and typically wear a Large but always size down in Free People.  I ordered a Medium and even that will have to be taken in after this pregnancy.)

Have a wonderful day!
