Chenille Butterscotch Sweater

FALL WEATHER HAS FINALLY ARRIVED IN RALEIGH!  Yes, that sentence certainly deserved all capital letters.  I have been (completely impatiently) waiting for the temperature to drop.  Fall is my favorite time of year so now I just am keeping my fingers crossed that winter remains at a distance for awhile so we can enjoy this amazing weather.

Admittedly, I have not been able to get fully ready every day recently.  Emerson has been experiencing reflux and let’s just say that she has been quite “spirited”.  That’s the adjective that I am using to describe her as opposed to something less positive…(visually insert teeth-gritting emoji here).  She will have a few decent days and then all of a sudden have a day or two when she cries in pain constantly and just wants to be held.  Needless to say, it makes any kind of routine impossible.  The tough part about it isn’t the lack or routine, it’s the feeling of helplessness.  We want so badly to take away her pain.  For now, we will ride it out and just pray that it subsides as she gets older.

Although I wasn’t ready until the early afternoon yesterday, I did manage to get out of the house with my hair and makeup done.  It was a bit of a gloomy day anyway so the need to spend a ton of time on my hair didn’t seem too necessary so I was able to throw some curls in and call it done.  The air was a bit crisp so I was thrilled to wear my new tunic length sweater.  This butterscotch color called out to me in the store as it seemed the perfect color for fall.  It reminds me of the season’s changing leaves.  The chenille material is incredible soft and cozy and I love the rounded hemline detail.  Although this sweater is meant to appear a little oversized, it doesn’t feel bulky at all.  I have larger chest so wearing sweaters can difficult because they just make me look top heavy.  That isn’t the case with this one in the slightest.  It is such a gorgeous piece for fall!

Printed Maxi Dress for Spring

Good morning, friends!

Let’s all take a deep breath and get ready for a new week.  On the blog side of things, Tiffany and I have a fun week ahead and on the personal side, my week is full of parties and dinners.  However, the biggest thing happening in my life this week?  My sweet little guy is starting preschool!  (Cue the tears.)  I am a stay-at-home mom but I am not naive to the fact that Ryan craves social interaction as well as structure.  He is beyond excited to begin school and, as emotional as it make me feel, I take comfort in the face that he will love his experience.  The school is located close-by so we have driven by multiple times to show Ryan and each time he tries to get out of his carseat (which is impossible, thankfully) and go inside.  He is SO ready.  Fingers crossed that this mama will be the only one shedding tears tomorrow!

Even though he will only be starting out at two mornings a week, it will give me a bit of time to be more productive…or to meet up for brunch!  Speaking of which, today I am featuring the perfect dress for both of those situations.  This printed maxi is comfortable enough to wear while running errands around town but dressy enough for a mimosa-filled afternoon.  The fabric is so soft and I absolutely love the fit.  It comes in at the ribcage but doesn’t cling anywhere else.  Bonus in my book!  The tie at the neck allows you to adjust the neckline so it fits your body…and gives you the option to position the v-neckline lower or higher, depending on which way makes you feel more comfortable.  I paired it with a denim jacket because it is still a little chilly in the evenings here in Raleigh (and because my arms are a current insecurity) but it is also gorgeous alone.  I plan on taking it to the beach this summer to wear both on the beach when I want more coverage and at night to dinner…so versatile.  This dress is definitely worth checking out for both spring and summer!

Embellished Denim Jackets

Alright, friends, let’s talk about a fun piece to add to your spring wardrobe!  A cool trend that is being seen everywhere is embellished denim. I am particularly drawn to denim jackets adorned with patches, crystals, even paint.  While this trend is definitely hot right now, it isn’t one that will leave you hanging onto a dated piece a year from now.  Embellished denim has always been in style, it’s just being spotlighted more right now.  You’ll be able to wear these pieces for many years to come.  Personally, creative denim pieces remind me of the early 90’s.  I lived in London at that point in my life and would spend hours hunting for the perfect patches for my jeans and jackets…most likely a Rage Against the Machine patch or some type of skull patch.  Ugh, what I would do to be able to go back in time and hold onto those pieces!  This look is such a great way to display a bit of personality.  You could easily add your own embellishments to these jackets or for those of you who love a good project, you can use these for inspiration and design your own!

I have pulled together my favorite embellished denim jackets for you to check out. You can find them at the end of the post.   Just click on the individual pics for more details!
