An Essential Fall Item | A Duster Cardigan

Hi, friends!

Hoping that you all are having wonderful week so far.  For me, days are blurring together ever since Emerson’s arrival but I am hoping that we will have found our new normal a few weeks from now.  Several friends have said that once you hit the three month mark post-second baby that things have generally settled into place so fingers crossed that will be the case although that seems so far away.   We are definitely floundering a bit but David and I are so fortunate to have supportive families who are helping us out a great deal.  Not to mention the fact that David is doing anything and everything he can to help out.  Whether that means taking Ryan to and from school, taking over a night feed because I can’t keep my eyes open or simply having a cup of coffee brewing for me in the morning, he is constantly anticipating what Ryan, Emmy and I might need.  I had a c-section so I’m a bit limited for another three weeks.  I mentioned on social media recently that the physical healing is not the difficult part, it’s the fact that picking Ryan up is not allowed for six whole weeks.  He is constantly asking me if I am feeling better and if I can lift him yet.  My heart aches every single time he utters those words.  Thankfully, as long as someone else places him in my lap or if he climbs up himself, we can spend much-needed snuggle time together.  He’s just been so incredible during this major transition so it’s important to both David and myself to make sure that he is receiving loads of quality attention right now.

The good news is that the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight.  I have passed the halfway point and we are starting to get out and about as a family of four…granted we have yet to leave the house as a foursome at decent hour but we’ll get there.  We will get there, right?!  One of my go-to post-pregnancy looks consists of a cardigan, a layering tunic and some cute booties.  This particular one is a personal favorite because of the length.  The fact that it hits well below the knee makes it a bit different than the other cardigans.  Technically, because of the length, it is a duster cardigan.  The great thing about dusters is that they create a great line for your body.  Because they add length to your figure, they are instantly slimming.  Many dusters have a tie around the waist which adds a nice bit of detail but if you’re like me, tying that baby only accentuates your hips.  The design of this one has a tie-back detail but it is actually built into the fabric.  It doesn’t actually need to be tied and it doesn’t hang down…just adds some aesthetic detail.  This green is almost sold out but there are three additional color options available!  (I have linked everything at the end of the post.)

Wishing you a fantastic day today and an even better weekend…only one day away!

My Favorite Sweater for Fall

This morning, Ryan and I decided to channel the fall vibes and head out onto our deck in the early hours of the morning.  It is only a matter of hours before the sun is perched high in the sky and the temperatures are well into the 80’s again so being out there while the dew still covered the ground and while the air was still a touch cool was exactly what we both needed this morning.  While we were out there I giggled and thought, “I should wear my new favorite fall sweaters out here from 7am-8am every morning seeing as I won’t be wearing them much any time soon.”

This little venture outside while the sun was rising served two purposes.  The first reason simply being that it felt refreshing and was a nice little escape from our morning routine.  The second?  If you watch our Instastories, you may already know that Ryan has been waking close to 5am for the last two months.  After speaking with our sleep consultant several weeks ago, we made some changes in hopes of getting him back on track.  Well, nothing has helped so after speaking with her again yesterday, she suggested taking Ryan outside around 7am to try and help his circadian rhythm adjust.  Man, I cannot tell you how much I am praying that this works.  I don’t mind waking at 6am, but 5am is just exhausting.  Fingers crossed that these mornings spent outside help!

Who else is anxiously awaiting fall?  This 35 week pregnant lady cannot wait.  Sweaters, scarves, coats…I want them all.  Speaking of sweaters, I recently found this adorable (non-maternity) sweater dress and wanted to share it with you all.  The color is gorgeous and the statement sleeves sealed the deal.  As I mentioned, this is a sweater dress but I opted to style it as a sweater and pair it with jeans.  However, this will definitely be worn as a dress with cute tights and booties as well as paired with faux leather leggings and black over the knee boots once the weather becomes cooler.  There are so many styling options!

All the Velvet Kimonos

Morning, all!

Well, here in Raleigh we had a bit of a tease this past week.  It felt like fall was approaching and it was glorious.  There was a gorgeous breeze, the leaves began to fall off some of the trees and the temperature hovered between 70 and 75 degrees.  You better believe that the layers and booties were brought out with fervor!

Cut to yesterday…it was in the mid-80’s.  Now, the forecast calls for temperatures in the 80’s through the foreseeable future.  This 34 week pregnant lady would like to protest.

Speaking of approaching the end of my pregnancy, I refuse to spend any money on maternity clothes at this point.  It’s such an investment for a brief period of time so I tried my best to only purchase pieces in maternity wear that were absolutely needed, i.e. jeans and long tanks.  My new go-to looks consist of tunics, tanks with cardigans and now a kimono with a concert tee.  This is quickly becoming my favorite look…one that I’ll continue to wear often post-baby.  So many of these tees come in a tunic length currently, making it easy to wear even with a big ol’ bump.  The kimono is the perfect layering piece because it doesn’t add bulk to my already plumped up figure.  My love for kimonos is growing strong and I find myself gravitating particularly towards velvet ones.  There are so many gorgeous velvet options so I am sharing those with you.
