High Tops For Fall

Yesterday, I noticed that the flower petals from our Crepe Myrtle trees were beginning to gently fall off.  That, coupled with the beautiful breeze we experienced, made it feel like fall is truly on the horizon.  That’s not to say that we couldn’t have a crazy temperature spike again for a couple of weeks before the temperature actually begins to decrease for good, but it gives me hope.  I have always said that I could happily live somewhere without a summer.  Unless I am laying in a pool or at the beach, heat is not my friend.  In fact, the main thing I miss about L.A. (besides my friends) is the dry climate and the cool nights.  I’m that annoying friend who is wishing for fall within the first week of summer.

The slight change in temperature were are having here in Raleigh is making me so excited fall clothing.  While the hot clothing items for the upcoming season are layering pieces such as dusters, kimonos and cardigans, one of the main shoe trends seems to lean more towards athleisure and cool comfort.  More specifically, high tops are huge for fall.  If you have followed us for awhile, you may have noticed that they have been a favorite of mine for years.  It’s funny because when I wear my high top sneaks, I always have women comment, “I love those shoes but I could never pull off high tops” or “Those are so cool but I’m too old to wear them.”  Listen, my mom is in her late-sixties and she looks so ridiculously cool (and adorable) when she wears her studded high tops.  Forget the traditional rules and just wear what you are drawn to despite that little voice in your head.  I am no spring chicken but I have zero plans of giving up my high tops.  At the very least, give them a try!  A great option this fall is the high top sneaker bootie.  It offers a bit of a more conservative look versus Converse or Vans.  I have linked some great options below.

I am so psyched that there are so many amazing options out right now so I wanted to share my favorite picks with you all!  I have included a variety of price points ranging from affordable kicks to more high-end ones.

One of my Favorite Maternity Looks

Hope you all are having a fantastic week so far!

David left town again on Monday but came back on Wednesday so we have been elated to have him home .  He opened up another Rise Biscuits Donuts up in Richmond last weekend so he has been gone quite a bit in recent weeks.  Thankfully, things seem to be running smoothly so his travel will begin decreasing over the next month.

This week seems to have passed incredibly quickly but I am struggling to even remember what has been keeping us so busy.  I wish I could blame it on pregnancy brain but I think it’s just the way my brain now operates.  My memory is terrible…just awful.

I have now reached week 31 of pregnancy and putting together outfits each day is becoming slightly more difficult.  My goal during this pregnancy was to purchase less maternity pieces than I did last time around.  It just seems to crazy to spend all that money on articles of clothing that will no longer fit properly in just a matter of months.  There are so many amazing non-maternity options out there that you can wear with your growing belly.  I find that most longer tops and dresses from both Free People and Anthropologie can be worn during the full length of a pregnancy.

Despite my best efforts, there are some maternity pieces that I have purchased…the main two being jeans and a few skirts and dresses.  This black and white striped dress is one of those pieces and I couldn’t be more thrilled.  It is such a high quality piece and can easily be dressed up a bit for a bridal shower or worn with flip flops while strolling around on vacation.  I opted to pair it with an olive green vest as black and white stripes and olive green are one of my all-time favorite combinations!

Pieces for Baby Girl’s Closet

Happy start to the week, everyone!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

David has been out of town for the last week so Ryan and I spent a ton of amazing quality time together.  On Friday night, we had my nieces (ages 6 and 9) spend the night…making Ryan’s life complete.  He is completely obsessed with those girls and they are so sweet to him and so maternal.  At one point while the three kids were playing and I said, “Okay, Alex and Cam.  You seem to have this covered so I’ll be back in a few hours.”   They both whipped their heads around and responded, “Really?!”

My mom ended up coming over to help so the night went pretty darn perfectly.  I am always surprised that Ryan is so willing to go right up for bath and bedtime when the girls are here.  He never resists or tries to delay bedtime, even when he knows that other people are still awake in the house.  I guess being a cuckoo-crazy schedule-obsessed mom has its’ benefits.

The following day, I was able to spend a bit of time in the future nursery.  Our friends at California Closets are coming out this week to measure for an organization system in her little walk-in.  I did this with Ry’s closet before he was born and it helped me feel unbelievably prepared and organized when he arrived…and it continues to do so.  Cute little rompers, moccasins and stuffed animals have been slowly making their way into the room but we have zero furniture for her yet and no closet set up so everything is laying in disorganized piles on the floor.  It’s making me insane!  It’s crunch time and I really need to start feeling more prepared for her arrival.

Speaking of adorable little things…I wanted to share some of the pieces that I have purchased for this little one.  You’ll see that I am all over the place when it comes to style for her and I was the same way with Ryan.  Initially, I saw myself dressing her in very little pink but now I’ve fallen for beautiful blush tones.  I also didn’t think that she would have any florals in her little wardrobe but I keep finding sweet little bohemian style ropers and dresses and they are too cute to resist.  Because I tend not to dress super “girly”  in general, I imagined that she wouldn’t either.  That’s not to say that I am not equally as excited to dress her in Ryan’s black or gray hand me downs and throw little black Converse on her feet.  With Ryan, it took me a while before I finally settled on more of a style (which sounds incredibly silly, I realize) and it was eventually based on his personality.  I’m sure the same thing will happen with this little monkey as well.

Here are some of the pieces that I have found for baby girl…most of them were found at Nordstrom, Target and H&M.  It’s so nice because these stores offer such different price points.
