Monochromatic Look

Happy Wednesday, friends!

Admittedly, I typed that and then had to glance over at my calendar to make sure that it is in fact Wednesday.  My brain has officially turned to mush.  I don’t think I can blame it on pregnancy brain.  If you watch our Instastories, you may have seen me mention that Ryan is now waking closer to 5am rather than his usual 615/630am.  This had been going on for over a month and it has officially taken a toll on me…that coupled with the fact that I lay awake with my mind spinning each night around 230am.  We used a sleep consultant to help us train Ryan how to sleep through the night when he was 10 months old.  Yep, he was still waking 2-4 times each night.  Once we trained him, he became a perfect little sleeper.  Well, a perfect little sleeper for a year and half anyway.  I contacted the sleep consultant a couple of weeks ago and she assured me that what I am doing to correct the early rising is appropriate but we still aren’t seeing much of a change.  Fingers crossed that he starts sleeping in soon.  I would happily take a 6am waking!  (Words I never thought i would utter…or type.)

Moving on to a more positive subject…fall is on the horizon!  Woohoo!  I look forward to this time starting in June.  I have mentioned before that I could happily live without summer.  Let’s just say that the heat and I are not friends.  Fall is my favorite time of year for several reasons.  David and I celebrate our wedding anniversary in the fall, the change in foliage makes my heart pitter-patter, feeling the breeze on my face brings me pure joy, Ryan and I can comfortably play outside for hours, and finally, the least emotional reason of all, layers!

Who else feels insanely excited about being able to wear layers?  I swear that I am giddy at the thought.  This season, long cardigans and dusters are everywhere.  It’s exciting because they make the perfect layering pieces.  They are incredibly  versatile as they can be worn with jean or dresses and can be dressed up or dressed down.  They are perfect for both the workplace as well as a girls’ night out.

One of my favorite looks to wear in the fall is a layering combination consisting of a monochromatic color palette.  More specifically, I love pairing various shades of gray together to create a muted look.  In this particular case, I threw on a long cardigan which has several shades of gray ranging from a soft gray to a dark charcoal.  A simple off-white tank and faded gray jeans helped to keep the look clean and simple while a pair of tan booties added just a bit of warmth.

Unfortunately, this exact sweater just sold out but I have linked several other options that will easily work to create a monochromatic look!

Chambray for Casual Looks

Since we began our blog a few years ago, many things have changed…the quality of our images (thank goodness), our site’s design, the length of our hair and, most importantly, the passion we put into each post.  One thing that hasn’t change over the last several years?  Our mutually shared obsession with chambray.  In fact, when we first started working on Baubles & Backdrops we featured a series entitled, “A Chambray Look Every Day”.  Here’s a flashback to two of our looks we featured…

We remember feeling so awkward in front of the camera back then.  Let’s be honest, neither of us is truly comfortable in front of the camera now so we usually try to just talk and catch up whenever we shoot.  It helps take our mind out of the moment and minimizes how funny we can feel standing on a busy street in front of the camera.

Okay, back to the topic at hand…chambray.  We still wear chambray all the time.  Our favorite way to wear chambray has remained the same.  A simple button-down chambray top still proves irresistible to us.  Because we are thinking about new pieces to help us transition to fall, we wanted to share our current favorite chambray button-downs with you all!

“Grandpa Chic”

Happy Wednesday, all!

How is everyone’s week going?  Things around here continue to be busy…and productive.  I am finally seeing the light at the end of tunnel with regards to getting the house organized before baby girl’s arrival.  My goal is to have purged and organized every room and every closet.  The only thing I will not touch?  The unfinished storage area in our basement.  First of all, it’s completely daunting and unless David is by my side in there, I might have a breakdown.  So. Much. Stuff.  Second of all, our community has a massive garage sale each year so we are waiting until then to begin pulling everything out of storage.

On a positive (and exciting) note, I ordered several pieces for the nursery yesterday.  Her crib, dresser, chair and a mirror should all be coming within the next few weeks.  The plan is to order the two bunny prints that will hang above her crib later today.  Next up?  Find wallpaper for her crib wall.  I am trying to find a wall covering that will match the existing paint color and, so far, it hasn’t proven to be an easy task.  Fingers crossed that one of our local wallpaper shops will have a perfect match.  Maybe I’ll head there tomorrow.  Up until about a week ago, I had been super low-key about her room.  Ryan didn’t start sleeping in his room until he was between 3 and 4 months old so I wasn’t too concerned about having her nursery completed based on that timeline.  However, I don’t know what the heck happened this past week but now I’m like, “It’s game-time, people!”  I want everything DONE.

Part of this entire process involves cleaning out my closet.  I donated several bags of clothes last week and sent a ton of stuff to my favorite local consignment shop, Dress.  The irony?  The very next day, I received  shipment of items that I had ordered from Nordstrom.  My bad.  Inside the box was this amazing cardigan that I am wearing below.  While I have always loved what I fondly refer to as the Grandpa Chic look, I am LOVING these new cardigans that have a more slouchy look.  This particular one offers a less structured vibe and the color is pretty incredible.  I can absolutely understand why someone would shy away from this copper color but I couldn’t resist.  To keep the look fairly streamlined, I decided to pair it with all-black.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!
